When something goes wrong

The messages people actually hit, what each one means, and what to do about it.

Saving

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Needs a nameA reel cannot exist without one.Type one in the field at the top, then save again.
You have used this month’s reelsThe limit is reached. Nothing is lost.Keep editing — the draft survives. Wait for the month, or see plans.
A message naming a capability and your planThe reel uses something the plan does not include, and you are trying to add more of it.Remove the piece it names, or move to a plan that has it. What was already in the reel stays — see if your plan gets smaller.
Something in the document does not add upThe reel is in a state that cannot compile.Open Checks — it names the problem. ⌘Z back to before the change that caused it if you are stuck.
Not saved (in red, on a draft)This browser refused to store the draft — usually a private window, or full storage.Press Download to get the reel out, then save it properly on a normal window.

Signing in

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Too many attemptsThe limiter, not a lock.Wait a few minutes. If you are no longer sure of the password, reset it instead.
Signed out while drawingThe session ended in this browser. The playground says so and keeps what is on screen. Sign in in another tab, come back, and save.
The reset link does not workThey are single-use and expire.Ask for another from /forgot-password. Nothing is used up by trying.
Registration is closedA setting, not your details.Nothing you can do from here — the site is not taking new accounts at the moment.

Playing and downloading

  • The reel will not animate. Check whether the machine has been asked to reduce motion — every reel honours that, deliberately. In the editor, check the Still switch above the stage.
  • Download does nothing. It compiles first: if the document does not add up, it sends you to Checks instead of downloading a broken reel.
  • The cover could not be drawn. Something on the first beat cannot be turned into a still. Change what is on the opening beat and try again.
  • A holding page. The site is being worked on. The published reels are unaffected; the playground comes back on its own.
